What is Assistive Technology ?
Assistive technology is any technology that helps people, including those with disabilities to perform functions with ease. Everybody uses some type of Assistive Technology. Our Assistive technologies include computer hardware, software, and peripherals that assist all people in accessing computers or other information technologies - at home, at work and in everyday life. For example, advanced students use computer technology to learn and progress faster, while people with, for example, limited hand function may use a keyboard with large keys or a special mouse to operate a computer. People who are blind may use software that reads text on the screen using a computer-generated voice, or people with speech impairments, quadriplegia and Aphasia may use a neuro-headset that allows them to communicate be heard, and understood using thoughts alone.
A computer lab has workstations equipped with a large variety of Assistive Technologies.
